How Codo Clubs Work

Codo Clubs are a great after-school activity to help kids develop social skills, have positive adult role models and make new friends. They’re also all a ton of fun!

Bonus: parents get a predictable 90 minutes where their kids are safe, supervised and learning new skills!

Everyone (kids and the Host) is able to communicate through our custom video conferencing software called Base Camp. This allows everyone to see and hear everyone else. There’s up to 6 kids in each session, plus the Host, so plenty of individual attention.

Something To Look Forward To

Weekly After-School Clubs

We're Kinda Like Their Cool Cousin

Hosted By Awesome Adults

It takes a special kind of person to be a great Codo Host. Luckily for us, we’ve got lots of them!

Our Instructors all come from Laser City (our laser tag facilities in Alberta), so are already awesome at working with kids.

Way Cooler Than Online School Was!

See And Hear Each Other

Our video conferencing system (Base Camp) allows all the kids to see and hear each other, as well as their Host.

We actively want them to be talking and interacting, so no always-muted here (like some online schools do!)

Always Something New To Learn

Become A Minecraft Pro

One of the best things about Minecraft is how deep you can get into it. There’s always something new to learn!

Stay Safe Online

Safe, Secure and Private

Safety is a our number 1 priority. All of our Hosts are vetted and supervised.

Our video calls are secure and private (only the kids and host on them), and we only play games on private servers (no random people!)

Use Things You Probably Already Own

Simple Technology

We’ve worked hard to make Codo Clubs as accessible as possible to everyone, so there’s no complicated hardware required. Most families already have everything needed.

And we’re always here to help make sure it’s setup properly!

What People Are Saying

Frequently Asked Questions

Legitimate questions!

We’re a business based in Alberta, Canada. Our main business is our laser tag facilities in Edmonton and Calgary called Laser City. We’ve been around for 8 years now. Click Here to visit the Laser City website!

We started Codo in May 2020 after temporarily closing our laser tag facilities in mid-March due to the pandemic.

We wanted to help keep kids social, having fun and being safe online. It also allowed us to hire a ton of our part time staff back to run our online camps, clubs and parties.

Since then we’ve grown a ton and hosted hundreds of kids!

Codo Club is an online weekly after-school get-together for kids ages 6 to 12. They’re based around kids favourite games (like Minecraft, Roblox and Among Us) and are hosted by our awesome staff. They’re safe, secure, supervised and convenient.

Kids get to socialize with other kids, make new friends, learn about their favourite games, and more.

Parents get some predictable free time, knowing their kids are being supervised. Plus, no driving them all over town!

We totally understand that the concept of Codo is completly new to most people. Take a look around our site to learn more, but please get in touch if you’re left with un-answered questions.

You can also sign up for a free 1 week trial of Club. If it’s not for your family, no hard feelings – just let us know and we’ll cancel your subscription. No cost, no risk!

Codo Club is $49/month. That covers one 90 minute session every week.

Your first week is free (we don’t start charging until after your first session).

Shortly after you sign up, we’ll contact you with all the details for your Codo Club. We’ll make sure your tech is all ready and show you how to access the next Club session.

Usually we’ll have you join the next session, but sometimes it’ll be the next week. For example, if you sign up on Tuesday for a session that happens every Wednesday, there might not be enough time to get you setup properly in that short time. If that’s the case, we’ll get you setup for the next Wednesday as your first session.

In the days following your first session, we’ll send you an email and charge your credit card for the first month. If after your first session you decide that Codo Club isn’t for you, just get in touch and we’ll cancel your subscription and you won’t be charged.

Generally no. Most kids are absolutely fine on their own once they get going. Some younger kids might need to assistance from mom or dad with using the computer, but we make everything super simple.

Before your first camp you’ll do an orientation to make sure all of your technology is properly setup and everything is working.

It’s totally cool if you want to hang out with your child, but most parents take the opportunity to get some work done or have a break while their kids are at Codo Club.

Yes. Our camps are private (it’s only the kids in that camp and their host) and secure (we use a unique “Codo Code” system to prevent un-authorized access).

All of our Hosts are vetted and trained, plus all our camps are monitored by a supervisor at all times.

One of the big advantages of Codo Club is that your child can play online with other people, but without the dangers of playing with strangers

Codo Club is made up of two parts: Base Camp (our video conferencing system) and the actual game itself.

Depending on how you play the game, you can often use the same device for both (usually a PC or a Mac). But sometimes it makes more sense to play the game on a different device (like an iPad) and then use a computer (including a Chromebook) for the video conferencing part.

Take a look at the Hardware section above to see all the different combinations. If you want to check your setup, just get in touch and we’ll guide you through!

For Software, you’ll just need a web browser (Google Chrome is best) and then a copy of Minecraft on whatever device you’re using.

Shortly after your first session (to try us out!) we’ll charge your credit card for the $49 (Canadian, plus tax). We’ll then automatically charge your card on the same date each month.

You can of course cancel anytime! Just get in touch and we’ll cancel or pause your payment right away – whatever works best for you!

Most of our families do Codo Club on an on-going basis, so it made more sense to have an automatic payment each month so there’s no break in your kids fun!

Want to give a different Club topic (Roblox, Minecraft, Among Us, etc) a try?

No problem! As long as we have space, we’re happy to move your child to a different Club.

Be aware however that it might be on a different day of the week – check the Club page for that topic to see the available days and times.

Each camp is ran by a live adult host. They’re there to organize the activities, supervise the game play, help the kids as needed and generally entertain!

All of our hosts are vetted and experienced with kids. They’re all adults and work for our Laser Tag facility, Laser City.

They either work from home or from one of our locations in Edmonton or Calgary. To be honest, they’re awesome. They’re the cool older cousin!

Up to 6, plus the Host. (Among Us Clubs have up to 9, to make the games run better)

Fair point! We feel there’s “good screen time” and “bad screen time”, and we obviously feel our clubs fall into the “good” category.

Why? Well, rather than just mindlessly watching YouTube or playing video games, while kids are in our clubs they’re getting to socialize, develop important communication skills, plus being exposed to positive role models (our hosts).

We totally understand that parents are wary about adding more screen time to their kids days, but our clubs are about as good as screen time can be!

Awesome, we want to hear them!

The world has changed a lot in the last year, and there’s lots of questions. The whole concept of Codo didn’t exist a few months ago, but now it’s real thing, but to people new to it, there’s lots of questions.

Please get in touch. We’ll take the time to answer your questions and concerns, even if they might seem silly.

Call us at 780-800-2324, email us at hello@codo.ca or use the chat in the corner. We’re friendly people, we promise!

About our Codo Hosts

Our Hosts are amazing! Part aspirational role model, part older cousin, part cool teacher.

They’re all experienced, vetted and supervised. They’re also all adults – no high-schoolers here.
